If you drive up the West Coast as if you are going to Yzerfontein, there is a little sign that leads you via a gravel road to the Strandkombuis.

This is also a very popular wedding venue in SA and strangely enough I had never been there before, so when my friend Candace suggested it I was all in!

We arrived just before one and walked through the restaurant to go down to the beach in front of it and take some photos, just white sand and blue skies as far as the eye can see.

The restaurant itself is very beachy and rustic, wooden structure with canvas and shells. You pay a set fee (R250 I think – very reasonable) and then you can eat as much as you want, and trust me you will want to eat plenty!

First they serve the most delicious and authentic home-baked breads with jam and snoek pate, in other words, heaven! I basically went over board here and had no more spaces for the main course – oops! Next is the biggest variety of seafood I have ever seen! From calamari, to muscles, prawns, snoek, you name it! It tried everything and went back for seconds! Dessert was tea and coffee with “koeksusters“! Simply perfect – PLEASE make a plan to visit them, friendly staff, beautiful setting and best food!
