Sitting on a hill overlooking the beautiful city of Prague is the largest ancient castle in the world! Construction on Prague Castle started in the year 870 and it has been the seat of power for many kings and emperors – now it is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic.
The castle boasts many impressive historical buildings, amongst them the St George’s Basilica and my favourite the magnificent St Vitus Cathedral! It also houses the Bohemian Crown Jewels and has a street called the Golden Lane, where apparently alchemists went in search of a reaction to produce gold.
We spent a few hours walking around on the grounds, SO much to see – be sure to take a few hours for this visit and wear comfortable shoes. It was amazing to be in the presence of so much history – a definite highlight!
